Story
So we did it and also raised an incredible £381 for the EMC Trust. THANK YOU EVERYONE. I've had a lovely e mail from Ralph Ridler of the EMC Trust and best wishes from the lovely Frank Fletcher (CEO). They are a lovely team but then they were probably hand-picked by Dame Ellen, who is herself very nice and very clever. I first met her when she was living in Ancasta's old boat yard, Hamble Yacht Services, back in 1990-something....She won't remember me but I so admire her foundation, ability as a sailor and all-round Super Human.
Of course, it's not too late to donate and believe me, the EMC Trust are so grateful for every single pound donated. Would be lovely to get to £400...
You may be wondering how we did on the race, sorry, challenge. Well my goal was youngest (on bike) first, eldest (running) second and me, 49 years old and quite frankly I feel about 103 some days (home schooling!!!!) last. And that is what happened. But new PB's for all of us. And the boys were just blown away that they have raised £381 & they had some good exercise on such a beautiful day in such a lovely part of the world.
So thanks again people, friends & family and also complete strangers who have donated anonymously. Amazing. xx
Now where can I buy a bronze medal from I wonder.... :)
Inspired by a local friend of my sons (Toby, who is cycling 26k tomorrow, aged 8, on behalf of his uncle's spinal injury 2.6 Challenge) my sons and I are running (Ben and I; we've being running together for years, he is the older one) and Matthew (the smaller one) is cycling (can't keep up with us as he only has ickle legs) 2.6 miles on a safe, tried & tested route through Hamble & round a bit of Netley's Queen Victoria Country Park. We will be practicing safe social distancing at all times, increasing the 2m to 5m at times, as Ben and I tend to race in open spaces and we might be breathing, ahem, slightly more than normal. We have tried & tested silent hand signals and will slow by prior arrangement at the known pinch points. If you see us, please give us a wave, not a hard stare & ideally call your dog to heel as they can be a bit of a pest for runners (I have been bitten in Viccy Park before) & we had an incident today which was a little unpleasant.
We know there are so many good things going on, so please don't donate unless you want to and can comfortably afford it. But if you do, a heartfelt thanks from me and all at the EMC Trust. Head over to their website if you haven't heard of them before- the EM stands for Ellen MacArthur.
