In Nov 2011, 6 weeks after our friend George's daughter Belle was born he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, the tumour was pressing and squashing on his kidneys, they were failing and he was recoding dangerous levels. George was admitted into A&E and was met by a Renal Consultant. If the team were not on hand George would not have survived. Within 48 hours they had him on dialysis, cleverly balancing his levels (he was retaining lots of liquid). The renal team worked very closely with Georges oncologist. After he had several rounds of chemo he was given the all clear of cancer in July 2012. Unfortunately a month later he discovered that it wasn't all caught. Again after several rounds of chemo George was responding very well but unfortunately he contracted a very rare condition called TTP http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrombotic_thrombocytopenic_purpura The condition caused George to be admitted into ICU where he was unconscious for 18 days. Several doctors told his wife Angie to prepare for the worst. George wasn't responding to anything until Dr Paul Warwicker ( here is some info on him.https://www.enherts-tr.nhs.uk/gps-professionals/consultant/warwicker/) diagnosed the condition. It was their last resort and after plasma exchanges George woke up. If the funds for research were not available Dr Warwicker would not know about this condition so it's very important that they are allowed to continue with their work. George is still under the wonderful care of the Renal Team. He is getting better. If the renal team were not involved in Georges care Belle would be without him and he wouldn't not have witnessed what a wonderful little girl he helped bring into the world. The courage that both Angie and George showed during this terrible time was inspirational and we want to do something to help them raise funds for continued research by Dr Warwicker and his team. Please help us to reach our target. Thank you.
