As you have made it this far, we are not going to patronise you with too much info. What we really want is your money so we'll keep it short.
ANYTHING YOU DONATE HERE GOES DIRECT TO THE CHARITY!!
Why are we asking?
We have entered the 2005 Rhino Charge on 29th May 2005 in Kenya, East Africa and have pledged to raise lots of money to protect the Aberdares, its wildlife, its local inhabitants and Kenay's main water supply.
What is the Rhino Charge?
A 4x4 bush event where the 55 teams have to drive their vehicle the shortest distance between 13 checkpoints as measured by GPS. Two of the team are in the car, the others running ahead to scout the best route! Avg distance traveled 40kms within 10 hours! (i.e straight through thick bush)
See www.rhinoark.org/pages/Rhino%20Charge for more info and pictures on the madness!
Why our team is special?
It is full of special people! Also it is International (UK, Italy, South Africa, Denmark, Kenya), one of only 3 such teams competing against the local Kenyans. None of us have ever done this before, some have never even met each other but we are all committed to doing our best to mould a competitive team under the most challenging circumstances.
The harder, the better! Bring it on!
What can you do?
Please give generously and send this link to ALL your mates too! There is a prize for whoever raises the most cash, so if you do your bit we will do ours! Remember - lots of little amounts add up to one big amount.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Rhino Ark will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.
The Internationals - Car 30
Team Profiles
Navigator & Team Leader
Edward (Top Cat) Johnstone
Chosen by virtue that he achieved an entry place against the odds, put the team together and has tried to inspire(!) this hapless crowd for the past couple of months. In true African style he is always subject to being deposed in a bloody coup prior to or during the event. TC needs to learn how to navigate and use a GPS!
Driver
Walter (Chewy) Steyn
Chosen for his INability to run by time of Charge, he will place the car where it needs to go, subject to his leg healing after having two plates taken out Monday, 17th March. Although no promises were made, Chewy intends to be fitter than he is now!
Mechanic
Peter (Odd Job) Bonde Nielsen
Chosen for his streamlined hairstyle, access to camp equipment and general superior fitness and bush knowledge! Odd-job needs to learn how to fix a car if he is going to be a real mechanic.
Ballast
Filippo (Muscles) Lauro
Chosen for his international status, great sense of humour, physical presence and the fact that he was 1st to say yes to being on the team. Muscles has promised NOT to be of any assistance in fund-raising, getting fit or African knowledge. He better be on good form on the day!
Nairobi Goafer
Gemma (Jessica Rabbit) Lawrence
She is young, fit and has watched the Charge from the sidelines. What more does a team need than a poster girl who knows how to make the tea? Jessica needs to recover from her own tummy operation in time to get the camp menus right.
Journo/Wino
Franca (Scooby) Davenport
The Chairman of Rhino Ark requested that she be on a team and if this helped us get a slot....a half-marthon running journo who has written two years of articles on the Charge, she is ideally placed to increase the value of our sponsorship campaign. Scooby needs to ensure that full coverage is obtained and that begging letters are perfectly written.
So there you have it, please give generously and send this link to ALL your mates too!
Many thanks for your support.
