Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Been a funny old year 2020. Personally, won't be recommending to a friend, will be leaving a constructive review on trip advisor. I've been struggling a recently to maintain a positive outlook on the future what with that which must not be named floating around the atmosphere. So I thought why not move into 2021 doing something vaguely more mental than sitting on a table at Spoons with 7 people on it.

Most of you may not know about my chronic addiction to all things wildlife related. I have been fortunate to visit places with some of the richest biodiversity on the planet , fuelling my obsession further. This biodiversity, thanks to some of the greatest let downs to our species, is in danger of becoming more bio and less diverse.

Poaching threatens to destroy the most iconic animals in the world, like the black rhino, the African elephant, the mountain gorilla, the lion, as well as the zebra. 97.6% of the black rhino population has vanished since 1960, due to poaching. Luckily there are organisations such as the International Antipoaching Federation.

The International Anti-Poaching Foundation are a conservation charity who employ 1100 rangers protect 14 million acres of African wilderness. They have developed an empowering and gender-diverse conservation model to protect wildlife and habitats as well as helping to support local communities. They were also the founders of the Akashinga (The brave ones), the first all-female, anti-poaching unit in the world. In the first 2.5 years Akashinga helped drive an 80% downturn in elephant poaching in Zimbabwe’s Lower Zambezi Valley, one of the largest remaining populations left on earth. Pretty cool all round.

I've decided to run to el and back to help raise money to fund their incredible work. I will be running 2.4km every hour for 24hrs on 5th December. Hopefully, Bo Jo also allows me to go on more than one form of exercise a day. The 2.4 was bit rogue but if you do a spot o math it’s the remaining percentage of rhino population from the original 1960's numbers.

This is something I feel very passionately about and would be so grateful (as would the elephants and rhinos) if you would donate something to the Just Giving page towards these incredible people fighting to keep multiple species in existence. They are no less important than us. The fight for equality and fair treatment should not simply be a fight that resides within the human race but should stretch to the wide array of creatures alongside whom we live. It’s the 21st century after all.
