A NOTE FROM ST PETERS HOSPICE

We believe everyone deserves care and dignity at the end of their life, and our expert teams provide that in a professional and caring way. Our support is holistic, and covers the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual issues that can arise as a result of serious illness. We also extend our care to loved ones and carers, providing respite during the hardest of times. Thanks to donations like yours, we can be a voice at the end of the phone, a nurse on the doorstep, and a hand to hold through the darkest of times.

Karen Appleton

In the summer of 2021 my Mum, Karen Appleton,  was diagnosed with a rare Appendix cancer - Pseudomyxoma Peritonei - that would change her life forever.

Over the next 2 years she went through a chapter filled with both courage and heartache. Ever the fighter, she received major debulking surgery and chemo as she battled against the relentless grip of cancer,

Unfortunately, a few month's ago Mum became very unwell and made the decision to go to St Peters Hospice to receive symptom control care. Throughout the next 10 days, St. Peter's Hospice emerged as a beacon of compassion, providing not only medical care but also a haven of warmth and solace. The dedicated staff became an extended family, easing the burden with empathy, support, and a genuine understanding of the emotional toll that accompanies such a journey.

Now, I embark on a mission close to my heart – a fundraising campaign to give back to the extraordinary sanctuary that touched our lives.
Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to run over the last year and given Mum's love of running I have decided to run the Jurassic Coast Challenge. 76k from Corfe Castle through Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door along to Weymouth. Finally, from there I will make my way along the coast path to West Bay and finish in Bridport. Mum's 'Happy Place'
Your contribution will enable St. Peter's Hospice to continue providing care and support, offering solace to families facing the pain inflicted by this nasty illness.

With your support, St Peters can give patients and their families the best possible care. They can continue to provide comfort and reassurance, and help them make the most of every moment, as they did my beautiful Mum.
