We provide vital funding to support seafarers in need.

Story

Following the cancellation of the Annual 24 Peaks Lake District challenge and restrictions on daily exercise being relaxed from 13/05/20 there is now an opportunity to put in some hard training and to raise some much needed funds for the Seafarers UK COVID-19 £2 Million Emergency Fund.  Many news outlets have recently reported about the plight of Seafarers stranded around the world and this fund has been set up to raise money to help, with 75% of money raised allocated to the international merchant seafaring community and 25% to UK coastal fishing fleets.

A few of us who were registered for the original event have decided to try to replicate, to a degree, the 24 Peaks Challenge over the weekend of 4th/5th July. These are the dates set for the original challenge and given the short lead time for training will make the  challenge similar to, or potentially harder than, the original challenge .

Neal Bann (Maersk EMR) ran a 32.25 mile (52 km) Ultra Marathon in the hills around Glossop in 7h and 15 minutes, this included 5,000ft (1,500m) of ascent!

Katie and Richard Buckley (Maersk) managed to cover 58.7 miles (94.5 km), with 4,500 feet (1,400 metres) of ascent in a single walk of 24 hours and 3 minutes.

Laurie Cichy (Hamburg Sud) cycled 183 miles (295 km) in the Lancashire hills, taking in 12,700 ft (3,900m) of climbing, in 14 hours and 23
minutes.

Jonathon (Maersk IT) and Francesca Willcock walked 33.1 miles  (53 km) from Aylesbury to Uxbridge along the Grand Union Canal in 11 hours and 15 minutes

And finally Sean Hayward, Pete, Liam and Luke Radburn, all from Hayward’s Transport, walked 32 miles (51km) around Lake Windermere.
