I am looking to take part in a number of Great Runs later this year and I need your help with sponsorship to support the Little Lives Appeal at Milton Keynes Hospital.
As most of you will know I always say that this will be the last year I take part but I this year I mean it - as my legs have made me promise. So this will be the last great runs I take part in so I would like to go out with a bang and raise the most money possible to support this charity.
The Trust cares for over 350 neonatal babies each year and vital life-saving equipment and an appropriate environment are needed to provide the most sophisticated care to these special patients. The Little Lives Appeal aims to raise £250,000 for the Neonatal Unit, which will go towards a full refurbishment and redesign of the Unit.
Some of the premature, small or ill babies admitted to the Neonatal Unit are born as early as 24 weeks old (16 weeks early) and weighing as little as 500 grams.
Over 3,600 babies were delivered by Trust staff last year, and around ten per cent of babies born at the Trust are admitted to its Neonatal Unit where they receive intensive, high dependency and special care.
But the demand for our specialist services is growing. The hospital currently has 18 cots (to deliver intensive and special care), and plans to add a further four high dependency cots. A complete refurbishment is needed to enable the hospital to increase capacity to 22 cots, and allow equipment to be upgraded.
Funds raised from the appeal will enable us to continue to provide excellent care to tiny babies and a fresh, relaxed environment for their parents.
