Story
Just under 12 months ago my son-in-law James was given the devastating diagnosis of terminal cancer. At this point in time he was 34 years old with two children under the age of 5 and he was working as Head of Science at The Pedmore High School in Stourbridge.
This caught us all by surprise as there were no symptoms prior to the diagnosis which was only discovered due to a covid scare. Like many other families we were totally shocked and did not know where to turn or what to do next.
James sadly deteriorated rapidly and needed care that we simply could not provide at home. In our darkest hour the Mary Stevens Hospice were able to help us. They were able to provide care of the very highest standard and enabled his family to spend some quality last moments with him including allowing Tom and Alice to visit him in a place that didn’t resemble a hospital, meaning their last memories of Daddy were not scary.
This same level of care was also seen when they provided the same excellent services to Roydon Griffin, father of one of our riders Rob Griffin, when in 2009 he also sadly passed away.
We want their invaluable work to continue for everyone in need in our local area and beyond and at the same time raise the profile of cancer in young adults which affects many lives but doesn’t seem to be on the radar for many people.
Richard, Rob and Matt are going to undertake the challenge of riding from London to Paris in just four days - the first day is 90 miles alone! Can you support them on their way and inspire them to ride faster?
Please help us to raise as much money as possible - any donation is gratefully received by this amazing charity that are solely funded by kind caring people like you.
