EMCOR UK 3 Peaks challenge · 7 June 2023
The 3 Peaks Challenge is one of the UK’s best known mountain challenge events, which involves climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales. At midday on Wednesday 7th June a team of 21 climbers made up of 11 EMCOR UK employees and 10 supply chain partners will commence the ascent of Ben Nevis, Scotland. This will be followed by Scafell Pike, England which will be climbed during the middle of the night and finishes at Mount Snowdon, Wales. The challenge is to climb the 3 highest mountains in the UK in just a 24-hour period. To complete the challenge the team must complete the 26 miles of walking, 11,182ft total ascent and 462 miles of travelling before midday on Thursday 8th June.
We are doing this challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, and our collective aim is to raise £62,483 which would pay for a Macmillan Nurse for 1 year, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
In the last 4 years, both my parents have received cancer diagnosis; my Dad discovered he has Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and my Mum, having recovered from Breast Cancer over 10 years ago, received the news that she has Myeloma. Although incurable, both have undergone initial successful treatment including chemotherapy and with continuous monitoring and a lifetime of medication, the cancer, thankfully is currently being managed.
I know how invaluable the Macmillan Nurses are and our family and wider friends and I am hugely appreciative of all the help and support they have provided since the initial diagnosis to both my parents. That is why I want to be part of a team which aims to raise enough money to fund a Nurse for another life changing year!
