London to Paris 2019 · 19 September 2019 to 22 September 2019 ·

We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Story

In August 2012 I was diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma. Only a few months earlier I had felt healthy and well but by the time I was diagnosed with this very aggressive cancer I was gravely ill. I received superb treatment at the University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire and was lucky enough to make a good recovery.

The understanding of Burkitt's Lymphoma and all blood cancers is building all the time, as is the knowledge to treat them. Myself and my family are so grateful for that. Not everyone is so fortunate as to make such a good recovery. Bloodwise works in many ways to help and support those affected by Blood Cancers, not least in medical research.

So what can I do? And what can you do?
Bloodwise needs funding to continue with the great work. One of the activities I have enjoyed as part of my rehabilitation after my illness has been cycling. Cycling any distance requires physical stamina and mental fortitude. By far my biggest challenge I have ever done will be to ride from London to Paris in September. The days in the saddle will be long, the hills will be steep, the rain will do as it pleases and the legs will be tired from back-to-back rides. Please donate to Bloodwise using this page to support me and raise money for this very worthy charity.

Now I had intended to ride London to Paris in September 2018 and was training towards that goal. However, I had a big blow to my plans when I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2018. I had surgery to remove the tumour from my humerus - not funny! - then started chemotherapy at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 5 days before I was due to start the ride. I'm now recovering from that treatment which makes this challenge greater, but my resolve stronger. So I will be delighted if you can help me increase my fundraising and every time I see the total grow I will be encouraged further to train to complete the task and keep those pedals turning.
