Etape Cymru · 9 October 2011
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Sunday 9 October I shall be taking part in a 100 mile bike ride in North Wales - the 'Etape Cymru' - to raise money for the Lymphoma Research Trust.
My Mum, Jenny, had Lymphoma, which is a cancer of the lymphatic cells of the immune system. Thankfully, Mum has made a full recovery. Others are not so fortunate.
In the UK in 2008, over 13,000 people were diagnosed with Lymphoma (both Non-Hodgkins and Hodgkins types). In the UK in 2008, Hodgkins and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma together caused nearly 5,000 deaths (source: Cancer Research UK).
The Lymphoma Research Trust does not receive any government funding and relies entirely upon voluntary donations. The charity supports research into the treatment of Lymphoma and makes grants to medical researchers at the Lymphoma Trials Office to organise clinical trials. The trials assess whether new treatments work better than existing ones and test different combinations to see which are the most effective.
The Etape Cymru is 100 miles long and has climbs totalling over 6,000 feet, over some of the toughest climbs in North Wales including the Horseshoe Pass, The Shelf, The Garth and World's End. It will take somewhere between 7 and 9 hours for me to complete (feel free to predict how long you think it will take me!).
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now. Thank you for supporting the Lymphoma Research Trust.
