London City Mission - Webber Street 50th Anniversary · 31 December 2012 ·

1 in 2 people in London are unlikely to have a Christian friend who can invite them to church, give them a Bible or share the good news of Jesus.  So we equip local churches to step out in faith, build connections with the communities around them and lovingly share the message of Jesus Christ.

Story

The Rob Roy Challenge took place on 23rd June 2012.  It involved walking 16 miles and then cycling 39 miles through the Trossachs.  I am delighted to say that I not only completed it but managed to do it in a few seconds under nine hours, which I regarded as quite an achievement since I did not even own a bike six months ago.  I am even more delighted that, as you will see from this website, the generosity of my friends has exceeded even my high expectations and over £8500 has been raised for the Webber Street Day Centre for the homeless (includive of tax recoveries).

The Webber Street Centre is run by the London city Mission (of which I am a director).  It serves breakfasts and provides showers, clothing and other support for the homeless in London.  It is 50 years old and the London City Mission is trying to raise £100,000 to enable a refurbishment to take place that will secure the long term future of the Centre.  My aim is to make a significant dent in that target.

Since you are reading this, you are clearly thinking of giving something.  Thanks.  I think that you will find that donating through JustGiving is simple and fast. I also understand that JustGiving is totally secure and JustGiving promises never to sell your details or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it is an efficient way to donate.

Once again, thanks for giving (assuming that you are about to do so).

Richard

PS:  Doing the Rob Roy Challenge was enormous fun, if little tiring.
