Story
From 9th - 12th July 2020 I will be running the 84 mile Hadrian's Wall path, which stretches from Bowness on Solway on the Irish Sea coast, to Wallsend, on the North Sea. This is by far the most physically demanding challenge that I have ever undertaken and requires a significant amount of training to give me the best possible chance of completing it. My aim is to complete the vast majority of the challenge over the first three days, followed by a final day running through Newcastle Upon Tyne to the coast.
Make 2nds Count is the first charity of its kind in the UK, raising money for awareness and research into Secondary Breast Cancer. Set up in 2018, the charity funds incredible research for new treatments and hopefully a cure! Funds raised will go directly to secondary breast cancer research in the form of the research team based at University of Edinburgh.
Secondary breast cancer is breast cancer which has spread from the breast to other parts of the body. Although secondary breast cancer can be treated there is no cure. Unlike those living with primary breast cancer, there is no end of treatment, there is no remission. It is estimated that 35,000 people are currently living with secondary breast cancer in the UK yet only 7% of the National funding for cancer goes towards this incurable disease. Make 2nds Count aim to address this imbalance.
A close family friend was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in late 2017, which was devastating for her and all of those close to her. Her positive attitude since the diagnosis has been truly remarkable and last year she raised over £15,000 for the charity by organising a sponsored walk. If I can raise a fraction of this I will be a very happy man!
Please give generously!
