The volunteers' skills, knowledge and sheer enthusiasm make lasting and far reaching change in the world's poorest communities. Returned volunteers also make an invaluable contribution to raising understanding in their own countries about issues like poverty, inequality and opportunity. I spent four years as a VSO myself in the 1980's and 90's working in settings as diverse as refugee camps, rural cattle farms and remote schoolrooms. I've seen at first hand the power of the partnerships VSO fosters and nurtures. It's heartening, inspiring and effective. I’m fundraising in support of all VSO funded projects, which benefit around 2 million people every year.
