Pop Up Activity Centre - providing play, exercise and friendship to all children and young people with various needs and abilities in Bristol and the surrounding areas.

Story

I'm lucky to be able to play football a couple of times each week, over 50,000 disabled children in Bristol area don't have that opportunity.

A little while ago I took part in Bristol and also Europe’s first do_action day.   There were 5 teams of WordPress people, each team tasked with creating a website in a day for a local charity.  It was a great day, there was a fantastic community vibe, and the websites created were brilliant.

I worked on Gympanzees.org, and really like the charity, so have signed up to do the 3 peaks challenge.  There are 2 teams undertaking the challenge this June.

For those who haven't heard of  3 Peaks, it involves walking the 3 highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales - all in 24 hours. This is a total of 23 miles - all just going up or down - a total ascent of 3064m and we need to walk this in 13 hours to be able to make the 24 hour timeline. There's also about 450 miles of driving in between.  They don't joke when they call this a challenge!

More importantly, we are doing this to raise money for the Gymapnzees Pop Up which will provide play, friendship and exercise for up to 3,500 children with disabilities over 4 weeks this summer and will, hopefully, prove our concept so we can go on to build a custom made fully inclusive activity centre which will cater for the play, exercise and friendship needs of the 58,000 disabled children, and their families, in the wider Bristol area.

At present 84% of children with disabilities can't access regular leisure and their health and well being suffer. 72% of parents experience mental health difficulties due to isolation. We are determined to do something about this. Read the Gympanzees story for more details and help us raise the money to make it happen!
