Story
I did an abseil at 70 and another at 80. I promised myself that, if spared, I would do one at 90. For a number of reasons the date slipped, but at 91 I am booked to do one down a 20 metre rock face in a disused Mendip quarry. Because I believe Tearfund is such a good charity, I am doing my abseil for it.
Tearfund is a Christian charity with over 50 years of experience in international development. It believes that poverty is not God’s plan, and an end to extreme poverty is possible. It works directly, and/or alongside local partners and churches, in underserved communities in more than 50 countries to tackle complex poverty in three main ways: Humanitarian response: it responds quickly to disasters and conflicts, supporting those in greatest need throughout the recovery process. Community development: it partners with local churches and organisations, mobilising resources and empowering communities to lift themselves out of poverty. Advocacy and influencing: it helps individuals and churches speak out on issues of poverty and injustice, and challenges unjust policies and practices at a local, national and global level
NB. People have been so generous to date that I feel I should update my target! Am now looking at £1500.00
