Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Like most of us, this year’s plans have needed a bit of a rethink. I realise I’m fortunate enough to still be in a position to consider my holiday this year; whilst also knowing so many individuals and charities are struggling to make ends meet
Speaking of Ends.... I had planned to cycle Land's End to John O'Groats for my holiday this year. However, without the ability to stop overnight anywhere, it was going to be a bit of a challenge too far! So, as an alternative, I've decided to go for a Knighthood and raise some money for the Children's Hospital Charity at the same time.
Ok, so it’s not a proper Knighthood, it’s a Knight of Sufferlandria as a reward for completing the Sufferfest challenge. Rather unbelievably, my wife Mel thinks it’s ridiculous and is refusing to call me Sir, even if I make it!
The Sufferfest is a series of workouts for indoor cycling, all of them hard, and most of them about an hour long. They take place in the fictional country of Sufferlandia, where the director of sport is Grunter von Agony and the goats shoot lasers from their eyes if you fall too far behind... (Cue Mel rolling her eyes). To become a Knight of Sufferlandria I will have to do 10 videos back to back (up to 10 minutes of break between each one is allowed), which should take all day and mean cycling a virtual distance of about 150 miles.
I've decided to raise money for The Children's Hospital Charity because they do phenomenal work supporting and enhancing what we do at the hospital and making it a better place for children and family to visit. As an example, the funds they raised allowed us to introduce high resolution manometry for the diagnosis of swallowing and bowel problems; which my own patients have benefited from significantly. I think that the pandemic has hit all charities hard and I wanted to use this opportunity to help raise money for them. I realise these are financially difficult times, but if you are able to spare some cash, I would appreciate it. (Alternatively, you could sign this online petition I have created lobbying Mel to call me Sir on completion: www.shethinksimridiculous.com*)
