Richard's Water Challenge 2021

Richard Palmer is raising money for National Kidney Federation

Water Challenge 2021 · 1 April 2021

This is our 30-day water challenge to support people living with kidney disease. All you have to do is drink water for a month - no tea, coffee, fizz or alcohol! Please help us in supporting kidney patients and their families.

Story

My wife has only one kidney, having had the other removed in infancy. Luckily, her remaining kidney has stood her in good stead and 4 children later she is still in good health.

Our son Tom's kidneys were damaged by a virus when he was aged 1, and failed when he was 18. After 3 years of dialysis, I donated one of mine which worked well for 10 years . But that was attacked by his immune system in 2015, and he had to go back to dialysis. He now manages that at home, linking up to 'Bertha' (named by his 5 year old daughter) for several hours 3 times a week. He is doing really well, but a 2nd transplant would make a fantastic difference to his life, if that chance comes along.

We have always supported NKF in a small way, but now the Water Challenge has bern laid down, I have decided to go for it and raise as much as I can for this good cause.
