Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition - to stop men dying from prostate cancer. Through shifting the science over the next 10 years to focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support, we will stop prostate cancer being a killer.

As many of my friends know, back in 2009 I was diagnosed with stage 2 testicular cancer.  Thanks to the amazing staff at Nottingham City Hospital and I like to think a little luck I have just become all clear after 10 years of tests and check ups.

So why am I fundraising for Prostate Cancer?

My Father-in-Law was diagnosed with prostate cancer a few years ago and took the brave decision to have it removed.  He has been luckier than most with the side effects, but they have still been life changing.  I would like to think that with help and support there will be better options or even a cure by time I get to the most likely age to get prostate cancer, which at 40 now is not that far away!

Because I have to take testosterone every day, prostate cancer is something that I am now under life time check ups for through blood test to try and catch it early.  I would like to think more regular check ups like this will be made available to all men at my age in the future, but all this needs paying for!

I am hoping to raise at least £500.  In the grand scheme of things this is just a drop in the ocean compared to what is needed, but as Tesco tell us, every little helps!

I have been in training for this since January, going out 3 nights a week regardless of the weather to try and build some sort of fitness up!  I started off at only just managing 7 miles a ride, I am now up to 25.5 so half way there on a regular basis! I am yet to try and do a full 50 miles but I will do before the big day on June 23rd.

Please donate! This is a massive challenge for me personally.  As you can see in the photo's I am not an athlete like Strava tells you, I am an overweight, middle aged bloke who likes his pizza and wine a little too much, but I have taken the challenge very seriously and I want to complete this ride with pride and confidence, not just roll over the line with my last breath! I have put my heart and soul in to doing both myself and the charity proud and any donations, large or small will be greatly appreciated!

All donations are going directly to the charity. All costs involved are being paid for personally.  I thank you in advance for your generosity!

Richard.
