We use physical activity & exercise to improve the lives of people with cancer

Story

In 2017 I was diagnosed with cancer,I came from a healthy background and was fit. I’d competed in triathlons for 10 years, so while not as good as you think you are, I was above average fitness wise. But cancer  has no boundaries,no rules, anyone’s fair game.

I was lucky, it was noticed early and also that it was contained within lymph nodes. I had a neck dissection followed by radiotherapy, which eventually resulted in being passed clear. And so the new chapter begins, trying to be realistic about what you can actually do as opposed to what you did before.Slowly building it up while dealing with various aftereffects of the treatment/op. This comprised mainly of nerve damage to the phrenic nerve resulting in a group of muscles not activating in my shoulder and a restricted lung capacity (great excuse from a swimming point 🤪).

But the human body is a amazing tool, you’ve just got to learn how to get the most out of it.

So 3 years on now, still rubbish at swimming and not good at running uphill either, but the opportunity arose as a 59th birthday treat,”The Norseman “a genuine massive bucket list  triathlon. And I got picked forTeam Zalaris Norseman charity team. A full Ironman distance, 3.8k cold swim, 180k hilly bike,42k run that ends on top of a mountain. So it won’t be pretty, but it will be a full on 100% to complete it.

I’m raising funds for MOVE charity,

They support people all over the uk encouraging exercise through and after their treatment. Also 5k your way through your local park run.

We can help make it happen.
