For 50+ years, Petrus has offered hope to those facing homelessness in Rochdale, Oldham and Burnley. From warm meals to safe homes, we deliver care that empowers people to rebuild, thrive and belong, creating pathways to recovery, resilience and lasting change.

Story

On 4th July I’ll be competing in Ironman UK, a triathlon that will take place in and around Bolton, covering a distance of 140.6 miles. Conceived in Hawaii, to essentially settle an argument, the race was born out of a quest to see which athlete was the fittest: swimmer, cyclist or runner. The distances for each discipline were taken from the island's historic endurance events at the time of conception. The race comprises of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, finishing with a marathon run.

Petrus is a local charity that exists to help support the homeless of Rochdale and Oldham, as well as providing gifts at Christmas for children with challenging home livesThis was when I first found out about their efforts to help share a little love in the community and have supported them since.

So, whether it’s the challenge of racing over 140 miles through Horwich rather than Honolulu or, how I’ve somehow shoehorned the mention of Christmas into July that encourages you to donate; whether you can spare 140p or £140, any amount raised will be a great help to those who need it most. Thanks for stopping by.

By the way, you can track my live race day progress by downloading the Ironman Tracker App and searching for bib number 1523 or name.
