Tommy is almost 20 months old. He has an older brother called Jake who is coming 4 in April. Tommy was born with a genetic condition called tuberous sclerosis. Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a rare multisystem genetic disease that causes benign tumors to grow in the brain and on other vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, liver, eyes, lungs, and skin. A combination of symptoms may include seizures, intellectual disability, developmental delay, behavioral problems, skin abnormalities, and lung and kidney disease. We only found out that Tommy had this condition when he had his first seizure at 12 weeks old, as a result he ended up on a life support machine to get control of his seizures. Unfortunately we have never got full control of his seizures and he can have up to 20 seizures a day. He is delayed all round with his development because of TSC. He is unable to eat or drink and is currently waiting to have an operation to insert a peg tube. This will mean we can see his beautiful face without the tube coming out of his nose. He has daily battles with seizures and other problems but through it all Tommy brings so much joy and love into our lives. Tuberous sclerosis does not change Tommy as we loved him the same the day before his diagnosis to the days after. Tuberous sclerosis has simply changed us and our outlook on life, facing obstacles and challenges that we never imagined we would have to. His smile would brighten up anyone's day💙.  We are both so proud of how brave he is. My husband and 5 of Tommy's family and friends are cycling ride London on the 30th July to raise money for the tuberous sclerosis association (TSA) . Ride London is a 100 mile cycle. Research is vital to improving the lives of those who are affected by TSC. Each participant has to raise a minimum of £500 in order to take part. This is so close to our hearts and any donations made will make all the difference to Tommy's life and all those affected by TSC. Thank you.
