It's bewildering and unsettling for anyone going into hospital but especially for children and that is why we are a fundraising hospital. We raise funds to enhance the experience of our patients by providing state of the art medical equipment and facilities and creating a child-friendly environment.

Story

Matty was in my daughters year at Eastern Green Junior School where I am a School Governor. He was only 11 when he died of cancer.

His courage and bravery inspired those that knew him and when he lost his 6 month battle with cancer in July 2011 his passing was felt by all.

After reading an article about Matty in the Coventry Evening Telegraph he said; “The children’s oncology ward at Birmingham Children’s Hospital had so many fewer resources than its neighbouring unit funded by Teenage Cancer Trust, and how unfair this was.” See the article here

With this in mind I would like to do something about this in Matty’s name.

On 25 September 2011 I have entered to compete in the Buxton Triathlon and will raise money for Ward 15 of the Birmingham Children’s Hospital where Matty had his treatment.

This is on Ward 15's wish list

Repaint of HDU ward - £300
Soft furnishings for the ward - £450
Improved lighting - £1500
Shower room - £5000
