BUPA Great North Run 2009 · 20 September 2009 ·
We did it! Me, Rus and Al made it from end to end as planned, and had a good time along the way. We had a few mechanical problems and stayed in some very strange places, but physically we all held up well and the wind and weather were kind to us. Thanks a million to everyone who has sponsored us!
This summer I will be cycling 1000 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats in 12 days, and if that's not enough to convince you to part with your hard earned cash, I'll be running the Great North Run a couple of weeks later.
I will be raising money for SANDS and if you know me well you'll know I've done this kind of thing before.
When our son Charlie was stillborn in December 2005 we were devastated, SANDS really helped us through those very difficult times, and along with the love and support of our amazing friends and family, helped us to smile again. Now, 3 years later, Charlie's little sister Lily makes us smile every day.
The reason I am digging out the sports gear again is because some of our very good friends, Rachael, Craig and little Sophie have sadly had to experience a very similar tradegy. They lost baby Matthew in November last year. Craig and I will be running the Great North Run together in his memory.
Unfortunately, too many young families have to endure the pain of losing their baby and SANDS is dedicated to helping them, and carrying out research to ensure that fewer families have to suffer in the future.
It's a very worthy cause, so give us a few quid!
Cheers
Rich
