Humber Rescue is an independent lifeboat charity, which is not part of the RNLI, providing 24/7 emergency response across the Humber Estuary. Operated completely by volunteers, we save lives on the Humber Estuary.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm swimming across the River Humber on Sunday 19th June to raise money for Humber Rescue. This is an independent charity, separate from the RNLI and funded entirely by donations, that supplies fast response search and rescue operations on the Humber Estuary. They cover approximately 500 square miles of water around the Humber. The Humber is one of the most unpredictable stretches of water in the world. Even the most experienced of navigators can get caught out by the shifting sandbanks and strong currents. Find out more about the amazing work they do here: https://www.humber-rescue.co.uk/

I've lived most of my life close to the Humber Estuary, roughly the first half on the south bank and the last 25 years living in East Yorkshire, but I've never actually swam in the river, frankly because it looks bloody dangerous (another good reason why they need a competent lifeboat station there). I've been training since January to get fit enough to swim across, a distance of anywhere between 1 mile to 4km, depending on tides on the day. Assuming I am successful in completing the crossing, my aim is to perform a stand up comedy show about the swim during the Hull Comedy Festival in November 2022, also to raise money for Humber Rescue.
