During my current detachment to Camp Bastion with 1419 Merlin Flight of Joint Helicopter Force (Afghanistan) I will be training for and running a 26.2mile (42.195km) route on Tuesday 20th December 2011.

Bastion lies at an altitude of 3000ft ASL approx, the air is dry and dusty and the days are hot, even at this time of year.

Adding to the challenge, for the duration of my tour I will be working 12 hour days or nights, every day without exception. All training towards the event will take place outside of these shifts during my rest time.

In addition, immediately following the Marathon, I will run an extra mile for every British Soldier who loses their life between now (20th November) and the day of the event, in a lap of honour.
