Rick's Wing Walking to support children who've suffered domestic abuse

Wing Walking · 19 September 2020
For a while I’ve been thinking on the process of climbing up on to the wing of a small Air plane, strapping myself to it and bracing myself as the propellers kick in and the plane begins to take its accent with me on top of it.
But quickly the thought would disappear and id continue to surround myself in the world I know, love and feel safe in...
A while back I started to do some charity work for True Butterflies, a Cornish Charity that Supports and provides therapy for people who have suffered domestic abuse. It started as myself and my Son Ryley with our fellow Force for Charity Star Wars family joining conventions raising some smiles, this led to the Costume Workshops where I got to build bonds with children who have witnessed or suffered Domestic Abuse and have a direct therapeutic input.
The progress made by these young people within the workshops lit me up inside! The trust that came back for them, the barriers slowly melting away and the skills being learned was amazing.
It truly is a charity so close to my heart!
Following this I became a patron for True Butterflies....
“Now what can I do to counter the budget cuts, the constant financial red tape that the government creates for such positive work happening for people?
I know, I’ll revisit that prior thought, this is a cause to get out of my comfort zone for”
April 14th at 12pm I will be strapped to the wing of an Air plane and wing walk for True Butterflies!
I also have 2.5 stone to lose to add to this crazy challenge!
So please, please support me to support others!
Thank you so much in advance!
Rick

Is part of our support that focusses on family’s and children affected by domestic abuse . We have created a support system to help Support, Rebuild and Empower children and assist them on moving on with their lives.
We have mentors to work with the children, their role will be to support the child and their family and aim to give them
the best support possible, for as long as they need it.. We also are working with drama and play therapists who can offer therapy and counselling to the children and the family for as long as it is required, there are no session constraints with regular reviews to assess on the progress made.
We want to help children move forward at their own pace and in their own time., We understand that every child is different and what works with one child may not work with another so we will always tailor our support to the individuals to provide the best chance in enabling them to move forward with their lives
The number of children and families coming to us is increasing all the time. With Ricks help we are hoping to be able to reach out to more children needing our help and support them through this difficult time. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated. Together we will make a difference!
