Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.

I am taking part in two ultra-endurance event this summer.  The first is a 100-mile foot race along the North Downs Way from Farnham, Surrey to Ashford, Kent.  The race starts 6am Saturday 3rd August with the current aim to finish around midnight (this could change!).

The second race is known as Ultraman and is a three-day endurance race beginning Friday 30th August through to Sunday 1st September.  Each day has a maximum 12hr cut-off with day one comprising a 6-mile continuous swim with a 90-mile bike ride to be completed immediately after.  Day two is a 174-mile ride and the race finishes with a 52-mile run.

Of course, these races will not be easy - even with six months of planned and specific training but I'm raising money for diabetes, a lifelong condition that certainly requires an endurance approach and, quite often, a good deal of mental toughness and positivity.

In my opinion, diabetes is continually painted in a negative fashion by the media - it means you're at a massively increased risk of foot and leg amputation, if you don't have great control then you'll likely lose your sight and, sure, there are other complications that can arise to make the thought that a diabetic will have a fairly hard and short life.  However, I've never believed in beating people with a stick to make them change, it's not a positive and clever way to go about it.

Instead, I'm trying to show what a diabetic body can still do.  I'm not suggesting that every diabetic should take on an endurance challenge or even take up swimming, cycling or running, my point is simply that diabetes is not a limiter to reaching whatever potential a diabetic may set themselves.

Your donation is greatly appreciated, it not only provides me with extra motivation but will help those suffering with diabetes now and help research on so that diabetic control can improve for each diabetic and, hopefully, a solution can be found to eradicate diabetes completely. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
