Story
I’m Rick, to say I am a novice or keen hiker would paint me in far too good of a light. I decided to walk the length of Scotland and England because I knew this would be a challenge for me and by no means a (wait for it) walk in the park. I’m banking on people donating towards my inevitable misery, and read every comment and donation I get - which helps to spur me on the never-ending trudge to victory.
I did some training for this challenge but this was mainly in the form of swimming and playing football. Before this I had only ever wild camped once and only walked more than 10 miles 4 or 5 times.
In more detail, I will be walking from John O’ Groats to Land’s End, approximately 1180 miles, 115 days. This is in honour of both of my grandma’s, Jean suffered from Alzheimer’s and Agnes dementia. My grandad, Ronny, took extraordinary good care of Jean and so this is for him too. Agnes always told me to go and do whatever I wanted, so that's what I'm doing!
I am writing a blog as I go along which can be found on my Facebook: Rick Candler or Instagram: @rickchelping
I have posted a picture which briefly shows the route I will be walking. If anyone would like to join me for any duration of the journey then please feel free to get in touch via my Facebook or Instagram Page. My plan is to walk 6 days (around 15m/24km a day) and then have 1 rest day.
I have decided that I shall donate £1 for every mile that I walk, and so when I finish the walk I will be adding somewhere between £1100 and £1200 to the pot.
Any/all contributions would be very greatly welcomed. Thanks for taking the time to read about my adventure and the charity it will help. Have a fantastic day.
