Cancer in children & young people (aged 0–24) is different to cancer in adults – from the types of cancer, to the impact of treatment & the long-term side effects survivors often experience. Through research we’re determined to overcome some of the different challenges these cancers present.

Story

This year, we want to help beat children's cancer sooner. Sparkle committee and the Rickmansworth & Chorleywood committee have joined forces to raise money for a very special pioneering project.

On Sunday 11th June at Sandy Lodge Golf Club, there will be a Summer BBQ fundraising event with entertainment from a star performer, Colin Roy. There will also be other local fundraising activity taking place throughout the year so please keep an eye out for updates!

If you cannot attend the event in June, you can make a donation to show your support via this fundraising page. Don't forget to Gift Aid your donation.

All monies raised from this project will go towards a study to see whether immunotherapy could be used to treat children with neuroblastoma.

This is an invasive cancer which grows from nerve cells and occurs in young children, usually under the age of 5 years old. There is no current effective treatment if the cancer has spread. Professor John Anderson is researching new techniques to use the child's own immune system to recognise and kill the tumour, which should stop the cancer from recurring.

Any support you can give is hugely appreciated. For more information about Professor Anderson's work, please visit the link below:
