Story

On Sunday the 21st March 2021, starting 10am GMT, I'm attempting to climb the height of Mt. Everest (8848m or more!) in one continuous virtual ride on Zwift (www.zwift.com) for CALM, and it's a bit of fun right?

(EDIT: Going for more than one vEveresting now, see bottom of page for all updates)

What’s Everesting?

The concept of Everesting is simple: pick any hill, anywhere in the world and bicycle repeats of it in a single activity until you climb 8,848m – the equivalent height of Mt Everest. A virtual Everesting is the same thing but the bicycle is placed on a stationary trainer where the resistance of the bike increases/decreases to simulate the climb/descent of a hill, giving you a simulated ‘road ride’ experience.

How does it work?

I'll try to complete the ride in around 10 hours on the 21st of March, on a continuous ride up and down the Alpe du Zwift Climb, in the virtual cycling world of ZWIFT.

To complete the challenge I will need to climb a total of 8.848km, around 8.5 climbs of Alpe du Zwift.

Aiming to average around 3.2-3.5w/kg up each climb, around 60 minutes per climb. Then the descent to the bottom takes around 10 mins, so get a little rest after each climb. If the legs are still feeling good, might carry on up past 10km total climbed. We'll see.

This is quite a hard challenge, so all support and donations are very much appreciated!

Will be a live stream at:
