Ride to Normandy · 3 June 2019

The RBL are the UK's leading charity providing financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the British Armed Forces and their dependents.

Story

Possibly the most iconic day of World War 2 and a day that is remembered all around the world, 6th June 1944, D Day.

The beginnings of the Allied invasion of Europe, the target, Normandy! A stretch of land made up of beaches and swamp marshes along the northern French coast and a mission that could change the course of the war!

In remembrance of the 75th anniversary of this fateful day, we are riding from our home city of Peterborough to Normandy, with all our money raised going towards the Peterborough branch of the Royal British Legion. We are setting off on the 3rd June and making our way to Portsmouth over 2 days. Here, we will get the ferry across the channel to land in Ouistreham (Caen) which in 1944 would have been the British landing beach codenamed Sword. On the morning of the 5th June we will ride the length of the beaches taking in the British beaches of  Sword and Gold, the Canadian beach Juno and finally the American beaches on the western flank, firstly, Omaha and then onto where our ride will conclude, Utah Beach.

In total we are riding 287 miles across the 3 days of riding.

Once completed, we will be taking a few days rest to be apart of the tributes that are already planned before heading home.
