We provide whole family care and support to those living with life-limiting illness

Story

Nova Raiders was formed in 2010 by a group of friends from Newport, Shropshire. Since then, the Raiders have raised £95,200 for local charities. One of our main events each year is the Route 66 sportive which attracts hundreds of cyclists with all proceeds going to a local charity. Unfortunately due to coronavirus we have had to cancel Route 66, which was planned for Saturday 6th June.

Our nominated charity for the event would have been the Severn Hospice. The Severn Hospice’s mission is to provide the best care and a better life for those with incurable illnesses and those important to them. The Severn Hospice has cared for fellow Raiders Paul Grubert and Scott Beeston. It is in their memory, along with Dave Hirst, that we came up with the idea of ‘Ride for Severn Hospice’ to replace Route 66 this year.

The idea is to get as many people as possible riding their bikes on (or around) Saturday 6th June instead and either

  1. Make a donation on the ‘Just Giving’ page or
  2. Ask friends and family to sponsor you on the ‘Just Giving’ page.

You don’t have to be a club cyclist to take part, you can be completely new to cycling. You can ride out on the road or virtually indoors. Just ride your bike (in line with the latest Government guidance) and make a donation, large or small.

Maybe you know someone who has been helped by the Severn Hospice?

Maybe you would have entered Route 66 and paid the entrance fee (£15/£20/£25)?

Maybe you could sponsor your child / grandchild to ride a mile?

Maybe you could sponsor yourself for every mile you ride in May?

Whatever the reason, whatever the challenge, let’s all get together to support this wonderful charity in these difficult times. Our target is to raise £4,800 which will mean the Nova Raiders will reach the milestone of £100,000 of charity donations over the last 10 years. Every donation, large or small, will make a difference.

Severn Hospice is with families from the moment they're referred to its care for as long as they need it, and it does this every day, all day for anyone in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales who needs that help.It does this for them for free, but it is not without cost and it can't happen without you.For every £1 you donate, they will spend 86p directly on care - and use the remaining 14p to make another £1. Last year, all those individual donations helped us provide £9.88 million of caring services. Severn Hospice provides specialist care and emotional support for families in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales living with an incurable illness. All our care is provided for free, but it is not without cost - we have to raise £2 for every £3 we spend. It's because you care that we can.
