Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can get the support they need. There is no one size fits all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with our support, no one has to face dying or grief alone. We are there when it matters.

Story

As a few of you may know I was encouraged to sign up to the CarTen100 (100miles Cardiff to Tenby in May) and the Wales Velothon (140km including the dreaded Tumble in July) this year. [edit] just for 'fun' I'm also now doing the London 100 too. Sorry if I've already bored you with tales but if I don't share it it won't be real and I am determined to succeed, even more so as a number of people keep asking me who I'm doing it for.

Well I wasn't going to do it for anything more than the challenge and my general fitness but as you've asked I've thought and well it has to be Sue Ryder.

I will never forget turning up to their hospice with my brother at 10pm on a cold Thursday night to sit with my family keeping my Granny company singing 'you canny shove your granny off a bus' and any other songs about Grandmothers we could think of. It was dark outside the lights were dimmed inside and it was a warm cocoon for us to be a family around our Granny in her last hours. Team Sue Ryder had created a little bit of home for my Granny insisting on bringing little bits of home to her...including the knitted beetroot, they'd even taken time to wash and brush her hair and put her 'face on' as she'd say (and they didn't even complain about our bad signing).

It's wishful thinking to hope people wouldn't need Sue Ryder but the fact is people do and they are quietly there brilliantly looking after families, even months down the line they were still in contact with us to see how we were.

And here we are today, Granny has sadly died but in doing left me the gift of my bike (among other things). So in salut to a woman who has been a huge part and influence in my life it's time my gift, and I,  gave back. Thank you for your encouragement and donations.
