Why am I doing this? I'm probably insane but most runners probably are and the Wallace & Gromit's Children charity is a truly wonderful cause.

My first son Sam was operated on within a few hours of his life and the treatment and care he received from Bristol Children's Hospital that serves large parts of both the West Country and into Wales was fantastic. The staff are very friendly and keep you informed whilst surgeons regularly work through the night completing unbelievable shift patterns to carryout both life saving and routine operations. Sam was one of the lucky ones he could come home after a couple of days spare some thoughts for the young children who spend weeks if not months in hospital from birth including premature babies whose parents spend months living with the situation in and out of hospitals far from home.

My second experience with the Children's hospital was via my second son Tom who also required an operation within a few months of his life. Again the treatment he received was first class and he was closely monitored from birth right through to his operation. This opened my eyes not only to the number of babies that require treatment but also older children and young adults who face hospital sometimes on a daily basis for treatment.

You might assume all this is provided for by the NHS, but with many medical services at breaking point, Children's hospitals and hospices often rely on donors and fundraising efforts to keep services going and improve things going forwards. This is where charities like Wallace & Gromit and all their volunteers come in to change children (and their parents) lives for the better.

Please help the children of now and the future have the same life that you have enjoyed!
