The Jay Walk · 12 June 2022
Charity Walk for Jay Kennedy in aid of Ayrshire Cancer Support, raising funds to become Founding Sponsors of a complimentary therapy room in the new Ayr centre for Children, Young People and Adults. This would be created in Jays name and be his legacy. Gail Nisbet, district nurse promised Jay she would do a charity walk for him as she cared for him in his last weeks. It was a fleeting thought but she never forgot and her connection to the family has grown ever stronger, she is the reason for The Jay Walk. So on Sunday 12th of June 2022 friends, family and people who were moved by Jay will come together and join in walking the River Ayr Way. This will be done in various distances and sections for mixed abilities, some will tackle the whole 44 miles in a day but for most a portion of that will be an achievement. The distance is a personal challenge the overriding reason is the “connection”, people coming together in Jays name, in his spirit and all he stood for and continues to represent. Sadly, late last year Jay died age 20, after 18 months living with brain cancer, operations and relentless treatments he faced unimaginable challenges in that time, he took on every one with humility and courage, he was a warrior, a hero in every sense of the word. His story is one of enduring “Hope”, a spirit and energy that eclipsed any cancer diagnosis. An enlightened mind and soul he was an extraordinary wise young man with an outlook on life and death many would envy. We will post on The Jay Walk page his story, his journey and those taking part over next 3 months and we are so thankful for any support, sponsorship and donations we receive over that time. Jays family are indebted to Gail, they have said she is one of earths angels! Jay would surely agree.
