WORTHING 10K SUNDAY OCTOBER 10TH.
You will possibly know that I have ran various 10ks in the past sometimes for charity. This one is different.
It is different because I am not firing on all cylinders at the moment. So whereas I would have found past 10ks relatively comfortable this will be a challenge to get round. I am currently experiencing a facial palsy which effects all the nerves and muscles on the right side of my face including breathing well which is kind of needed for a decent pace whilst running. It also affects my smile hence the scary photo!
I have had a lot of health problems this last few years including my leukemia and recent surgery and treatment for skin cancer. I have always experienced fantastic support and care from the Royal Marsden
hospitals in Sutton and in Chelsea. My 10k run this time round therefore is to raise funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity raises money solely to support The Royal Marsden. From funding state-of-the-art equipment and groundbreaking research, to creating the best patient environments, they never stop looking for ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. The Royal Marsden was the first hospital in the world dedicated to the study and treatment of cancer. It was founded as the Free Cancer Hospital in 1851 by Dr William Marsden.
Thankfully I will be ably supported during the run by my step son Paul who will also run/walk the course with me. So please think about donating what you can for this wonderful cause and if you are around the area come and support us during the run. The route goes along the seafront and Marine Parade at Sea Lane and beyond. You cant miss us – we will be wearing brightly coloured vests with the charity logo plain to see.
Thanks
Ronnie
