Story
What am I doing?
On 22nd September 2018, I will be doing the Mt. Snowdon Ultra 50. This is a 58 mile ultra marathon through the mountains of Snowdonia, with a total ascent of almost 18,000ft (5,462m) - that’s quite hilly!
I’ve done a few recce / training weekends on parts of the course and I’m under no illusions - this is going to be hard, most definitely my toughest challenge (to date)!
Why am I doing this?
I've competed in triathlons and running races (since 2010) and felt I needed to mix things up this year. I like to test myself physically but I’m also fascinated by the mental side of endurance sports. How far can we go? How hard can we push our bodies and minds? I entered this event without really looking at the route or the elevation profile - sometimes you just do things!
Why the brainstrust charity?
Almost a year ago, a friend and fellow runner, Chris Price sadly passed away after his battle with a high grade (cancerous) brain tumour. I didn't know Chris particularly well, but his energy, determination and fighting spirit were remarkable. He was an inspiration to the end.
The brainstrust charity help people diagnosed with a brain tumour. They work tirelessly to provide services and support following diagnosis and help them achieve the best possible quality of life. Brainstrust provided support to Chris when he needed it most and it’s for that reason, I would like to support them.
