Rob and Lyd's 10km Castle to Castle run in memory of Claire Freeman
I know not all of you knew Claire (my sister), but in April 2009, she was diagnosed with (what turned out to be) a very aggressive form of bowel cancer.
Right from the start she wasn’t going to let it bring her down and fought it all the way. But after two regimes of extensive chemotherapy and monoclonal antibodies, and just two days before she was to start a trial drug, Claire passed away at the age of 24.
In her first year at Warwick University (where she was a Medical student) she was in training for her first 10Km run - to raise money for charity. She unfortunately never did take part in this run though after the cancer was diagnosed.
In the last month of her life, she was very sceptical about going to a hospice. However after her first day at St Francis Hospice, she realised what an incredible place it is. They made her feel comfortable, looked after her so well and it was a perfect middle ground between a hospital and home. It gave her added motivation to keep on fighting and she started a physio regime to help her walking again shortly before she was about to start the trial drug.
Even though going to the hospice didn’t save her life, it helped her so much (in what must have been the most unbearable and scariest part of her life), and is why I want to raise as much money to help support the hospice continue doing such a tough job.
To do this me and Lyd are going to do the warrick castle to kenilworth castle 10km run that Claire was going to do. We would really appreciate donations of any size, and all your support means alot to me.
Thankyou
