I'm fundraising for Upbeat Communities because they're a great charity working in Derby to serve refugees and asylum seekers. They work from our YWAM base on Whitaker Road, and their activities include:
Befriending of new arrivals to the city through the Welcome Boxes project
English classes to help refugees and asylum seekers integrate into their new environment
Community-building activities such as meals, days out and sport
Skills training in everything from first aid to job interviews
Mentoring to equip refugees for the world of work
Baby showers for expectant mothers (upbeatcommunities.org/news/2018/2/1/birth)
Creative sessions to express thoughts through art
cultural celebrations (Nowruz, Christmas)
Learning English through Open Word classes, opening up the Bible to those who want to learn more about Jesus
Temporary accommodation for destitute asylum seekers and refugees (upbeatcommunities.org/hosting/)
Permanent accommodation to get refugees onto the housing ladder
