I'm fundraising for Upbeat Communities because they're a great Christian charity working in Derby to serve refugees and asylum seekers. They work from our YWAM base on Whitaker Road, and their activities include:

• befriending of new arrivals to the city through our Welcome Boxes project
• English classes to help refugees and asylum seekers integrate into their new environment
• community-building activities such as meals, days out and sport
• skills training in everything from first aid to job interviews
• mentoring to equip refugees for the world of work
• baby showers for expectant mothers (upbeatcommunities.org/news/2018/2/1/birth)
• creative sessions to express thoughts through art
• cultural celebrations
• learning English through our Open Word classes, opening up the Bible to those who want to learn more about Jesus
• temporary accommodation for destitute asylum seekers and refugees (upbeatcommunities.org/hosting/)
• housing for refugees
• women’s coffee mornings
• (coming later in 2019) refugee family support, providing a safe space for kids to be kids
