Story
Six years ago I started cycling, with the aim of completing the London to Brighton ride with friends. Back then, 54 miles was a huge achievement for me, but now, after 13,500 miles (21,600km) of cycling with over 450,000 ft (136,000 m) of ascent (15 x Everest) under my wheels, I'm embarking on my biggest personal challenge yet. This September I will complete 980 miles (1,600km) in 9 days, cycling from the southern tip of mainland Britain, Lands End to the most northerly point John O'Groats (the LEJOG).
As well as challenging myself I'd like to help others, and have decided to support the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust. Charlie and I were at university together and were 2/3 of a formidable front row in the University 3rd XV. Unfortunately Charlie took his own life a few years after graduation whilst suffering depression.
The Trust works to:
- Equip young people to look after their mental well being
- Help people to recognise the signs of depression in themselves and others so they know when to seek help
- Ensure expert and evidence-based help is available when people need it
As a small charity anything you can spare will make a huge difference to their work. Thank you for any support you can offer. Every pound will certainly give me purpose on my journey, and I think I will need all the support I can get on those 9 days!
