Welcome to Rob, Si and Marcus's JustGiving page!
For those of you who don't already know, these three intrepid adventurers will be setting off to circumnavigate the Earth and Moon without stopping in a specially converted bicycle-powered Vauxhall Corsa! Well maybe not quite, but the scale of the challenge has led us to think of it as such.
On 28th May we'll be setting off from John O'Groats in far North West Scotland and heading over 1000 miles due South (West) to hopefully finish at Lands End in Cornwall a couple of weeks later. Oh and we're doing it by bicycle (and we're not talking about those electronic ones which make hills so much more agreeable!)
The aim is to average 80 miles a day and have the prospects of blisters, sore legs, even sorer buttocks and the ferocious Scottish midges to contend with. And did we mention the notoriously reliable British weather? This is all the more challenging given that Si didn't lose the stabilisers on his bike till he was 15, Rob's idea of training involves a Nintendo Wii controller, and Marcus is just plain lazy!
Despite the idea first being envisaged as a challenge and adventure during a rather heavy evening in the pub over one-too-many Bacardi Breezers, we've since decided that such a test of endurance could also help make a big difference to others less fortunate to be able to attempt such a feat.
So we're raising money for Cancer Research UK - the world's leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research.
And why Cancer Research UK? Well, we all know how profoundly cancer affects people and that you'd be lucky to not be able to name a loved one that has encountered it in some way. Rob was unfortunate to lose his mother to Hodgkins lymphoma - a cancer originating in white blood cells - when he was a child so we all thought raising for Cancer Research UK seemed like the right choice.
Needless to say that anything you can spare, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated.
