Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In May 2020 my wife Alison and I were told the devastating news that she has inoperable Stage 4 cancer.
She was told it was secondary cancer but they didn't know where the primary cancer was. After a biopsy was quickly carried out they told us it was in her bowel and had spread to her liver & lungs. It was a very real concern that she may well be too ill for treatment as her tumor markers were unbelievably high. After blood tests and a blood transfusion they felt her body was strong enough for treatment.
By the time of this challenge, she'll have undergone 15 brutal rounds of chemotherapy, been on 3 different drugs and taken over 2000 tablets.
During her treatment her mother passed away (whilst she was hooked up to a chemo machine) and our daughter Sophia needed surgery on a severely broken arm and Ali was unable to be with her.
Throughout, she's handled things with such strength, style and stoicism even launching a small business that's helped combat the inevitable lows and difficult days.
Personally, it's been a very difficult period with the my overall feeling being one of utter helplessness as 20 years ago I lost my mum to cancer. The improvements in treatment and patient care are huge . Yes I've taken on additional responsibilities of caring and being the chef of the house (although those that know her would say of all Ali's talents cooking might not be towards the top of the list!).
This however isn't a plea for sympathy (just a donation to CRUK), what I've learned is that we're surrounded by incredible family, friends and colleagues (some of whom are doing this crazy challenge as well). We've really seen the best of people at the worst of times.
There's a huge deficit for funding due to COVID with many treatments and diagnosis either being postponed or not happening. So set against that back drop we're lucky.
Current research shows that cancer will affect 1in 2 people, any donation you make will be hugely appreciated.
Thank you
