Hello, thank you very much for sponsoring me to run (walk, hobble, crawl) up and down Mt Mulanje in Malawi (25km, about 1200m of ascent!) The money raised will be used to enhance the environment at Zomba Mental Hospital, Malawi's 300-bedded government psychiatric unit. There is an ongoing government-funded programme of improvements in the hospital but no money available to brighten the wards/corridors with murals etc It is well understood that the environment plays an important role in promoting recovery of the patients and boosting staff morale. Thus this work will benefit both people with severe mental disorders (who often also live with the added burden of extreme poverty and stigma) and the committed staff who work in very difficult circumstances to care for them. The donations will be used to employ an excellent local artist to paint up to 20 large murals of village life at ZMH. He is from a village near Blantyre and has already painted a number of wards at the general hospital, QECH. Any money left over will be used to support the ongoing activities of the Scotland Malawi Mental Health Education Project. Many many thanks again!
