Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm running the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run in Sheffield on 9th October to raise money for Cancer Research.
Like so many others, my family has been affected by cancer and sadly back in December 2009 my uncle lost his battle, just a few weeks later my dad was then diagnosed with the disease.
Fortunately for us, my dad received the all clear earlier this year and since then my attitude of 'it'll not happen to me' has changed and as a result I'm trying to raise money for Cancer Research starting off with the Great Yorkshire Run.
When family and friends are affected it open's your eyes to what a widespread disease cancer is and I'm sure most of us know people who have suffered or are battling against the numerous forms of it.
The furthest I've ran before is from one end of the football pitch to the other to go up for a corner so this is going to be a challenge for me and I'll be putting in a lot of time and effort training to complete the run in a competetive and respectable time.
Hopefully this will just be the start and I'd like to work my way to running the Great North Run and maybe one day the London Marathon for the same cause.
Any donations you can possibly spare will be gratefully received and will be going to a very good cause.
People who know me will know what a big Liverpool FC supporter I am and how much I despise Manchester United but as an extra incentive for people to donate if we can reach £500 I'll do the run wearing a Manchester United shirt (providing someone will loan me a top).
