I'm running to help make myeloma history

London Marathon 2019 · 28 April 2019 ·
As many of you know my Dad was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma,
an incurable type of blood cancer, in spring last year. After receiving radiotherapy and a six month course of chemo he is currently undergoing further chemo and a stem cell transplant – genuinely lifesaving treatment.
Whilst these will not cure his condition, it will help subdue
the symptoms in the hope that new therapies, constantly being developed/trialed, can provide further life extending solutions – or even a cure.
The life expectancy of myeloma patients has improved at a faster
rate than any other cancer in the UK, quadrupling in the last 40 years, mainly due to the availability of new drugs. In order to help support this vital research I will be running the London Marathon on 28th April in aid of Myeloma UK.
Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma. The ultimate goal is to find a cure, but they receive no government funding and rely almost entirely on voluntary donations and fundraising. This essential support allows them to invest in research and to ensure that patients get access to the best possible information, support, treatment and care. Simply put, their work is only possible because of supporters like you.
£12 provides a newly diagnosed
patient with an Information Pack about myeloma
£75 provides support for patients
and families at a Myeloma Infoday
£100 pays for four calls to a
nurse specialist on our freephone Infoline
£500 advances myeloma research by
paying for the genetic analysis of two tissue samples.
I’ve seen firsthand how the work and research Myeloma UK does
both improves and prolongs the lives of the 17500 people living with Myeloma in the UK, including Dad. Please don't be shy... your money helps make a real difference.
