I did it!!
54 hours of cycling over eight days. After 764 miles I had sore legs a sore backside but a great feeling. Coming into Biarritz on Friday afternoon was just the best.. Great to share it with Emma who was literally a great support. I could not have done it without her.
My route was:
Friday 21st August: Blakeney – Babraham, Cambridge - nice and flat but a tiring 15mph head wind wind the whole way
Saturday 22
nd: Newmarket – Dorking. Wind had dropped but fighting through London was challenging .
Sunday 23
rd: Dorking -Portsmouth. The north and south downs . I spent most of my time looking at the map to try and find a route that did not go through anywhere with the word hill in the titlle.
Monday 24
th: St Malo – St Nazaire. Surprisingly hilly and the wind was against me again. A long day ending in getting lost in St Nazaire
Tuesday 25
th: St Nazaire – La Rochelle. My longest day at 125 miles
Wednesday 26
th: La Rochelle – Carcan - a frustrating morning with some navigational errors but cycling with Rob and Jeremy from Royan into the Landes district made up for it.
Thursday 27
th: Carcan – Contis Plage - this was what is was all about, long flat roads through sun soaked sweet smelling pine forests
Friday 28
th: Contis - Biarritz _ only had 54 miles to do on my last day. The run along the coast into Biarritz was truly memorable.
Like so many people affected by the disease, I lost my mother to
Cancer and I hope my efforts will raise some money to help the Big C
fund cancer research and equipment in Norfolk and Waveney.
