Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Many of you who know me, know that my charitable activities are usually a LOT less strenuous than this ..... in fact they usually just amount to the embarassment of growing ridiculous facial hair and sacrificing my wifes affection for a month or so :0)

This time it just got a WHOLE LOT HARDER ..... 200+ miles on a bike which resembles a pizza cutter, on a saddle which resembles dental floss for hours and hours and hours .. the thought of that sort of agony has got to be worth a few quid ! I've never cycled 20 miles never mind 200 but it's a GREAT cause and well worth the contribution so please, please, please give them a donation, no amount is too small ... and equally no amount too large.

Regarding the charity, my company recently formed a link with RedR through our engineering division and if you choose to donate the amount will be doubled through my company’s matching scheme.  Funds raised will help RedR develop engineers and other competent personnel required in responding to global disasters including tsunamis, earthquakes, floods and hurricanes.

RedR is an international humanitarian Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) which supports aid organisations and other humanitarian actors across the world by developing skills and providing expertise.  Their mission is to relieve suffering caused by disasters by selecting, training and providing competent and committed personnel to humanitarian programmes worldwide.

RedR is an abbreviation of “register of engineers for disaster relief” and was originally a register of people who were trained to help in response to disasters.  Today around 7000 to 8000 people a year are trained with up to 10% being engineers. Those who know me, know my passion for engineering ( being a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers) and having supported the Armenian Earthquake disaster effort in 1988/9 I know first hand the great and deserving job these guys do.
