200km Arctic Dog Sledding Challenge 2013 · 17 March 2013

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

After nearly a year of fundraising for the Alzheimer's Society it's time for a big challenge and a big fundraising push.  Back in early 2012 when the sun was shining I thought it would be a good idea(?!) to sign up for a week trekking 200km over snow and ice within the Arctic circle. I'll be assisted in this trek by my own team of sled dogs, but have been warned to expect temperatures as low as minus 30. This is not going to be taking the dogs for walkies!

Alzheimer's is a disease that has afflicted my own family and the families of many of my friends. It is a disease that is steadily increasing in it's prevalence in the UK, with currently 800,000 sufferers due to rise to over a million by 2021.  The cost of dementia to the UK in 2012 was in excess of £23 billion, and so the more money that I can raise for the Alzheimer's Society the better.

The Alzheimer's Society fund research into the cause, cure, care and prevention of dementia, and details on all of this can be found on their website at http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/.

Any help in getting me past the £1000 target I've set myself will be greatly appreciated.
